The Unistrut P1000 channel system is a cold-rolled steel support solution designed for modular industrial framing and mechanical and electrical installations. Its material grades, coating options and load-bearing configurations are intended to accommodate projects ranging from standard indoor supports to marine and heavy industrial environments. The system is structured to combine structural consistency with a broad choice of corrosion-protection finishes.
P1000 channel is manufactured from cold-rolled carbon steel in 1.5 mm and 2.5 mm thicknesses, a choice intended to match different load requirements. The carbon steel complies with BS EN 10025, with a yield strength of 280 N/mm² and a minimum tensile strength of 370 N/mm².
For highly corrosive settings, the range includes pre-galvanized (PG), hot-dip galvanized (HG), electro-galvanized (ZP) and marine-grade stainless steel (SS) finishes. Stainless steel channel and fittings conform to EN 10088-2 Grade 1.4404 (316L), a grade selected for extreme environments.
| Material or process | Standard | Key property |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon steel channel | BS EN 10025 | High strength; yield strength of 280 N/mm² |
| Stainless steel (316L) | EN 10088-2 | High corrosion resistance; suitable for marine environments |
| Hot-dip galvanized | BS EN ISO 1461:2009 | Thick zinc coating; long-term rust protection |
| Pre-galvanized | BS EN 10326:2004 | Z275 coating; economical protection |
Corrosion protection is central to extending the service life of building infrastructure. The hot-dip galvanizing process follows BS EN ISO 1461:2009 and includes chromate passivation. Depending on specification, average zinc coating thickness reaches 55 microns on 1.5 mm and 2.5 mm channel and 45 microns on fittings.
Additional finishes include powder coating for decorative requirements and acid pickling and passivation for stainless steel products after welding or cutting, a process that removes heat tint and surface oxides. For high-silicon steels such as Corten A, deep galvanizing is available; its zinc coating can reach two to three times the thickness of conventional galvanizing.
Finish selection generally follows the corrosivity of the installation site. Pre-galvanized or electro-galvanized steel is typically sufficient for dry indoor conditions, while hot-dip galvanizing is recommended for outdoor or moderately corrosive settings. In marine or chemically aggressive environments, 316L stainless steel is specified to preserve long-term structural integrity.
Stainless steel components require little routine maintenance, but acid pickling and passivation are advised after welding or cutting to restore optimum corrosion resistance. Standard hot-dip galvanizing is intended for routine outdoor protection, while deep galvanizing is used for steels with specific silicon content and for industrial settings that demand a longer corrosion-protection service life.
